Re: Totnes Fungi
Back to Powdery Mildew (proper fungi!) today.
Podosphaera aphanis (possibly subspecies -aphanis ) on Geum urbanum aka Herb Bennet, Wood Avens.

Re: Totnes Fungi
Found yesterday in my garden - I pulled it up with a grass clump on lawn edge. Unfortunately didn't notice it first so didn't get all of stipe.
It has the right smell - mealy, wet flour , right gill spacing , right time of year for Calocybe gambosa (St. Georges mushroom) but it's small and not chunky.
However I can't think what else it could be.
This morning's spore print is white .

Re: Totnes Fungi
Found these boletes on a patch of grass on the corner of Maudlin Road and Magdalene Close .
Nearby trees are Sycamore,Hazel and Lime.
A few together rather than single ones (although photo shows one on its own)
Fresher one quite red others faded to pink ,stains blue , fibrous stipe .
I 'm thinking Hortiboletus rubellus but not sure.
Comments appreciated.

Re: Totnes Fungi
Had a search through some maggoty stipes for orange grains (as described by Laessoe and Petersen) and I think I found some which confirms H. rubellus (I think!)

Re: Totnes Fungi
Here's one that I didn't want to see.
Broad Bean Rust -Uromyces viciae fabae var. viciae fabae (so bad they named it twice).
It hit my spring sown Broad Beans but not the Aquadulce I sowed in the autumn.
Harvested them now and pulled up the plants for the compost bin. Beans inside pods OK but probably slightly lower yield.

Re: Totnes Fungi
A couple of Ganoderma ,one on an old stump on the grass at the top of Kingsbridge Hill and one on a Hazel stump just as you turn in to Fishchowter Lane.
Could be applanatum or australe . Sadly no Yellow Flatfooted Fly galls on it apparently they're fussy and only lay eggs in applanatum.
I need to look at the spores which are a reddish brown colour as can be seen on the ivy leaves.
Also woodlice are having a part on one of the brackets.
I didn't have a box with me so didn't bring home one of the other nearby fungi (see photo) went back this morning and they had been mown away.
suggestions welcome.

Re: Totnes Fungi
Boletes coming out of a stone wall today
The wall on the left as you start to walk up Kingsbridge Hill from Maudlin Road
The in situ photos aren't very good as I was bending down with the dog on a lead and traffic rushing past.
I presume the soil is a lot higher on the inside of the wall. Also I should have noted the trees but forgot (tomorrow)
I'll try and identify it later.

Re: Totnes Fungi
An Agaricus today in soil in a hedgebank next to an old stone wall in Fishchowter Lane.
I'm not sure about species- possibly impudicus but I'm not sure.
No ring on old specimen , no yellow staining possibly slight smell of phenol (but might be my imagination)
Clublike base to stipe
spores brown, gills free ,old FB 6cm in diameter.
I didn't have my knife with me (bad mistake) so couldn't dig out stipe base.

Re: Totnes Fungi
Saw these up Fishchowter lane yesterday in the hedge.
Armilleria sp.( Honey fungus) , not the most popular fungus especially if it's on trees in your garden.

Re: Totnes Fungi
Some little Blewits today in the grass at the top of Kingsbridge hill (near the garden wall of Windrush)
A bit skinny but probably Lepista nuda.
The Council assiduously mow this grass so don't often see anything there or it's smashed into little pieces.
