Hi Everyone, it's me again, with a mystery bolete;
Very large mushroom, growing in mixed leaf-litter. Cap; about 25 - 30cm across, rich chestnut brown, paler toward edge, flesh a dirty tan colour. Tubes; dirty olive-green colour. Stem; pinky-white, almost slim! It doesn't appear to be discolouring where it has been damaged.
I was a bit naïve at the time and thought such a distinctive mushroom would be easy to identify, (also, I was obsessed with picking, processing and freezing chestnuts!) so, unfortunately, I don't have better photos/description or a spore print.
Maow (a life-long friend) is about 32cm tall (without the hat), to give a better idea of size.
So long for now.

Re: Mystery Bolete from Jane
Hello Jane, judging from the size and cap colour I'd say this is a Cep, (Boletus edulis). Ideally we need a close up of the top of the stem to be sure though. Hope this helps.
